Turn your bedroom into the ULTIMATE sanctuary!
Right now we could all use a SANCTUARY. A place where we can retreat to at the end of the day to let it all go, rest & relax. The bedroom is a perfect place to create this alcove of rejuvenation!
Here are some simple ways you can create a cozy, nourishing space to unwind
CLEAR:
Any kind of clearing – whether it’s clutter clearing, energy clearing, space clearing, emotional clearing – is truly about MAKING SPACE. Space to take a deep breath. Space to clear and rest your mind. Space to relax your body and recharge.
Now is a perfect time to clear the clutter from this room. Put any books you’re not reading away on the bookshelf. Take a look at the tops of dressers or shelves and notice anything that could be more organized or thrown out. Maybe even start going through your clothes one drawer at a time and deciding what you can let go of.
Break it up into small 10-15 min projects you can do each day and take it one step at a time. Every little area you clear builds momentum, eases stress and anxiety, and allows us to relax more and more. Need some more guidance? Check out this post.
And while you’re clearing… maybe you try clearing out any technology from your bedroom.
Whether you charge your phone in a different room, or even plug it in a few feet away from your bed, giving yourself this time to detach from screens, technology and a constant influx of messages will give your brain a much need break and allow you to drift into sleep that much easier.
CLEANSE:
It’s deep cleaning time! You know all those places you haven’t cleaned in months (or ever?) – like the top of your fan…your blinds…your windows…or your base boards?? Now’s the time to clean them!
You can even make a powerful cleansing formula out of materials you probably have at home like water, vinegar & lemon. Just mix half and half water & vinegar in a spray bottle and squeeze in lemon juice or a couple drops of lemon essential oils. Not only does the smell of lemon improve mood and leave you feeling uplifted and energized, it’s also a powerful cleaning and purifying agent.
Cleaning off that layer of dust is as much an energetic cleansing as it is a physical one.
With each swipe of your rag just imagine releasing any stress, tension, or built up grim you’re experiencing in your mind or body, as you wash it away in your space.
ENHANCE:
Now that your space is feeling lighter and more spacious, here are a few ways you can turn up the nourishing energy even more…
Is your bed in command position? Check out this post for a breakdown of what that looks like and see if you can make any shifts. Placing your bed in command position enhances feelings of safety, security and ease and allows you to sleep more peacefully and restfully.
Wash all your bedding and curl up in a set of fresh sheets at the end of the day. If you have any essential oils, you could spritz your sheets with a calming scent like lavender for an even more relaxing touch.
Bring in soft textures, lighting and elements that invite you to unwind and decompress. Can’t go shopping? Shop your house! Take a look around your home and notice if you have anything like:
Salt lamps or candles you could bring in to add a warm glow
Fluffy rugs you could place by your bed as you step into it each day
Lamps you could add to your bedside tables so you can turn off the overhead lights and begin to rest your eyes
Sumptuous throw blankets that are soft to the touch and invite you to just curl up
Essential oil diffusers you could turn on at night to help you breathe deeply and relax
APPRECIATE
The GREATEST way we can strengthen and nourish our personal energy is to surround ourselves with things that make us feel good. One way to do that is to focus on things we can appreciate, or be grateful for, or that bring us joy.
Incorporating this into your routine as you wind down for the day, or as you’re just opening your eyes - is a truly powerful way to start and end your days in a positive, uplifting vibration. You could place a journal by your bed and write them down each day, or simply hold them in your mind as you’re breathing in the good feelings.
