A guide to creating rooms that feel JUST RIGHT!
One of the first things I talk to clients about during consultations are their goals and intentions. For their lives, their spaces and even down to different rooms in their home.
In life, it helps to find balance between all areas of your life that are important to you, even though it’s natural for priorities to ebb and flow sometimes. It’s when you start completely neglecting one area of your life that it can throw everything else off.
When it comes to your home - it’s important to be tuned in to your most important goals and deepest values so that your space can support and reflect that.
In my life and my space, two things that are deeply important to me are:
to create a relationship and home that embraces both of our values and passions.
to feel a deep sense of community, tribe and connection in my life.
So when I looked at the way my living room was previously decorated, I knew something felt off!
My living room is the first room people see when they walk in the doors, and I really want people to feel warm, welcome, included and at ease. Sooo…a picture of a growling dog didn’t exactly put off that vibe!!! 😂
And then my dog destroyed the old rug that was there, and it left the room feeling even more cold and bare.
So now we were faced with the question - what DO WE WANT TO CHANGE??
Before making any adjustments, I asked myself these questions:
How do we (my partner & I) want to feel in this space?
How do I want guests to feel in this space?
What are the main ways we want to be able to use this room?
How can the goals and intentions above be infused into this space?
Is there anything currently in the space that’s misaligned with what’s most important to me?
My answers were:
Relaxed, connected, grounded.
Warm, curious, welcome, at ease.
Spend quality time together as a couple. Host friends and family for dinners, connecting and relaxing.
Would love to add visual reminders of things that are important to us as a couple. Want to add warmer/brighter colors to create some lighter energy in the room that supports connection. Need to get a rug that the dog can’t destroy!
Growling dog image has to go!
So what we ended up adding:
Artwork that represents national parks my partner and I have visited together. It was important to me that these included some warmer, brighter colors to lighten up the room! Also hoped that these images spark curiosity and conversation with our guests.
Washable rug in grounding colors of greens and blues that the dog will hopefully not destroy!!
Accent pillows and tray to tie in the warmer colors.
Plants! Because, well…plants always lift up the energy!
Now, every time we walk in this room, we’re reminded of our goals and intentions - reinforcing to the universe what’s MOST important to us!
So next time you’re at a loss for how you’d like to switch up a room - start by asking yourself the questions above and..
